1940 SUPERMAN TRADING CARD # 37 Gum Inc Rare Distress At Sea
Estimated grade: 4 (3–5) · MEDIUM confidence · asking $270.00

Centering estimate: left border appears slightly wider than right (approx 55/45 L-R), top border slightly wider than bottom (approx 55/45 T-B) - centering is acceptable and not a major grade deductor. Corners show visible rounding on at least two corners visible from this angle, consistent with VG-EX to EX range. Surface shows noticeable toning/aging with an orange-pinkish patina across the card face, which is typical for this 80+ year old set but does represent paper degradation. Gloss appears mostly gone with moderate surface wear visible; no obvious hard creases are detectable from this scan though the aging/toning could mask light surface wrinkles. Back is not visible which limits grade ceiling confidence, and sleeve glare obscures edge conditions slightly.

Distress at Sea - 1940 Superman Gum #37
Estimated grade: 3 (2–4) · MEDIUM confidence · asking $165.00

Centering estimate: left border appears slightly wider than right (~55/45 L/R), top border appears noticeably smaller than bottom (~60/40 T/B), so centering is passable but not tight. All four corners show visible rounding — not catastrophic but consistent with a VG-range card; no razor sharpness is present on any corner. The surface shows significant toning/aging consistent with an 80+ year old card, with some color fading especially in the sky area, and there appears to be light overall wear across the face. No obvious heavy creases are visible in this image, but the sleeve glare and photo angle prevent confident ruling out of light surface creases; if clean of creases the card could nudge to VG-EX (4), but the degree of corner rounding and toning keeps the estimate centered at VG (3). Back condition is unknown and could further impact grade.

Superman Gum 1940 #37 Distress at Sea Non-Sport Trading Card
Estimated grade: 3 (2–4) · MEDIUM confidence · asking $100.00

Centering estimate: left border appears slightly wider than right (~55/45 L/R), top border noticeably narrower than bottom (~40/60 T/B) — centering is off but not severely so, no miscut detected. Corners show visible rounding on all four corners, most pronounced at the top-left and bottom-right, consistent with a VG card. Surface exhibits heavy toning, paper aging/browning throughout, multiple light creases visible across the card face (most notably diagonal stress lines in upper portion), and general gloss loss — all expected for an 80-year-old card but still grade-impacting. Edges appear worn with some roughness but no tears or paper loss evident; back condition unknown which could further affect grade. The accumulation of surface creases, rounded corners, and toning pushes this firmly into the VG (3) range, with VG-EX (4) possible only if the creases are shallower than they appear and GOOD (2) possible if back shows additional damage.
