NSCI Note

The crown jewel of Star Wars trading cards - the Luke Skywalker "rookie card". This card has absolutely soared in value over the past couple of years, with a PSA 10 version of the card selling at Heritage Auctions on May 5th, 2026 for $687,500. There are nine PSA 10 Topps Luke Skywalker "rookie cards" in existence, which means that the upwards pressure on the card will likely persist, especially with the 50th anniversary of Star Wars landing in February of 2027. There are plenty of Luke Skywalker rookie cards in circulation, but very few that stood the test of time over the years, making it one of the most valuable non-sports cards in circulation.

Topps 1977 Star Wars Series 1 Blue #1 Luke Skywalker Trading
Estimated grade: 5 (4–7) · LOW confidence · asking $4,000.00

Centering estimate: left blue border appears noticeably wider than right (~65-70% left, 30-35% right), top border slightly wider than bottom (~55-60/40-45 T/B) — off-center left/right puts this in the 6-7 range at best for that axis, though perspective distortion makes precision difficult. Blue border condition is the critical tell for this issue: the borders appear intact without obvious chipping visible at this resolution, but the photo angle and shadow obscure the corners and edges substantially — all four corners are either cut off or in shadow, preventing reliable corner grading. Surface gloss appears present but cannot confirm print defects or scratches. The combination of uncertain-to-moderate left/right centering, hidden corners, and the characteristic vulnerability of blue borders to chipping on this issue supports a conservative EX range; a NM-7 ceiling is possible if corners prove sharp but seems optimistic given the centering read. Range widened due to corner and edge information being largely unavailable from this photo.

1977 Topps Star Wars Luke Skywalker #1 PACK FRESH has small
Estimated grade: 5 (4–7) · LOW confidence · asking $395.00

Heavy glare from the plastic sleeve obliterates the center of the card, making surface condition and corner detail very difficult to assess. Centering: left border appears slightly wider than right (~55/45 L/R estimate), top border appears moderately wider than bottom (~60/40 T/B) — centering looks passable but cannot be confirmed precisely through the glare. The blue borders appear intact without obvious chipping visible at the edges, which is a positive sign for this issue. The seller discloses a 'small cardboard divot,' which is a surface defect that PSA would note and could cap the grade depending on severity — likely holds the ceiling to a 6 or 7 at best if corners and surface are otherwise clean. Corners cannot be properly evaluated due to glare; a better-lit photo is strongly recommended before bidding.

🔥1977 Topps Star Wars Series 1 Blue #1 Luke Skywalker NM/Roo
Estimated grade: 6 (5–7) · MEDIUM confidence · asking $254.96

Centering estimate: left border appears narrower than right (roughly 60/40 L/R favoring right), top border appears slightly wider than bottom (roughly 55/45 T/B) — centering is off but not severely so, consistent with PSA 6-7 territory for this notoriously wandering issue. Blue border chipping is the critical concern here: the blue borders on Series 1 Star Wars cards chip easily and from this photo there appears to be some wear/lightening along at least the left edge and bottom border, which is typical for mid-grade copies. Corners appear to have light-to-moderate rounding — not razor sharp but not heavily blunted; consistent with EX-MT to NM range. Surface gloss appears intact in the photo image area though the lower third is obscured by sleeve glare, preventing full surface assessment. No visible creases are detected. The seller's NM claim seems optimistic given the apparent corner and border wear; EX-MT (PSA 6) feels most likely, with NM (7) possible if corners and borders are cleaner than they appear in this soft photo.

1977 Topps Star Wars Blue Series 1 Luke Skywalker RC Rookie
Estimated grade: 5 (4–6) · MEDIUM confidence · asking $250.00

Centering estimate: left border appears narrower than right (~60% right-heavy), top border slightly wider than bottom — approximate L/R ratio 60/40, T/B ratio 55/45; centering is off but not severely so. Blue border chipping is the primary concern — visible wear and whitening are apparent along the left and bottom edges, consistent with the well-known fragility of 1977 Topps Star Wars blue borders. Corners appear to show light rounding, particularly at the lower-left and upper-left, suggesting EX to VG-EX range rather than NM territory. Surface gloss appears moderate with no obvious creases visible from this angle, but the image does not allow full corner closeup inspection or back examination. Overall the card presents as a solid EX (5) candidate with upside to EX-MT (6) if corners are cleaner than they appear, and downside to VG-EX (4) if the border chipping is more severe on the reverse or corners are more rounded under closer scrutiny.
